Hello reader,

Grab's latest earnings suggest that its super-app strategy is finally clicking.

The company reported net profit of US$252 million for Q2 2026, more than 6x higher than the US$35 million it posted a year earlier.

Revenue climbed 22% year on year to US$997 million, with growth spread across deliveries, mobility, and financial services.

These three major cogs in the Grab growth machine appear to be in tune that quarter, with the firm hitting a record 54 million monthly transacting users during the period.

The standout segment was financial services, where revenue jumped 59% to US$134 million. Moreover, combined deposits across GXS Bank, GXBank, and Superbank reached US$2.5 billion.

On competition, Grab co-founder and CEO Tan brushes off questions about Uber's rumored bid for Delivery Hero's Foodpanda business, noting that Uber remains contractually barred from competing with Grab in its core markets for a year after divesting its stake.

He also points out that Grab's edge lies in "structural advantages that are hard to disrupt." Of course, it has been implementing the super-app strategy that brought it to net profit. And now, its digibanks are starting to pull their weight.

You can check out this featured chart, which puts three years of Grab's earnings into perspective.

Another financial update you can sink your teeth into is that of StashAway. My colleague Melissa spoke with CEO Michele Ferrario, who shared more details on how the digital wealth platform logged a 42% jump in its revenue for the first half of 2026.

1️⃣ Grab's financial health in 8 charts

While Grab's financial segment stood out, its other businesses also performed well.

Deliveries remained its largest segment by revenue, up 21% to US$531 million. Grocery still made up only about 14% of Grab's user base. COO Alex Hungate points to global peers reporting grocery penetration north of 30% to say that Grab still has untapped headroom.

Mobility revenue grew a comparatively modest 12% to US$331 million. The firm committed over US$7 million to cushion drivers against a regional fuel crisis - a cost that coincided with average monthly active drivers hitting an all-time high, up 19% year on year.

2️⃣ StashAway revenue jumps 42% in H1 2026, beating 2025 figures

Ferrario says StashAway is profitable after tax in Singapore as of writing, adding that "profitability is growing."

This year, the company is honed in on improving its users' experience. This entails keeping investors on the platform informed about their investments and risk appetite by providing AI-generated personalized reports.

Grab's $600m Taiwan bet: strategy or stretch?

Although Tan isn't worried about Uber's potential Foodpanda purchase, Grab is still high on the food delivery business. That's why in March, the company announced its purchase of Foodpanda Taiwan for US$600 million in an all-cash deal.

I spoke with multiple analysts right after the deal was made public, and the general consensus was that the deal was a winning one for Grab.

The purchase presents a clear pathway for Grab's expansion in Taiwan, which Kiren Tanna, previously Foodpanda's Asia CEO, describes as a "strong ride-hailing market."

Tanna adds that Grab can also double down on the market with groceries, expanding Foodpanda's existing grocery delivery services in the country.

THE BLUEPRINT FOR PRODUCTION AI

In conversation with Google DeepMind's JJ Geewax

JJ Geewax, director of applied AI at Google DeepMind, understands that even the most advanced models are only as good as the infrastructure they run on. Having spent 15 years designing massive-scale systems at WhatsApp, Meta, and Google, JJ brings a deep practitioner's perspective to the brutal challenges of real-world deployment.
